AI & Artificial Cognitive Systems

About the sponsor/moderator

I started this dialogue space for several reasons.

Primarily, I wanted to express my views on the field of artificial intelligence and its impact on the development of (1) intelligent machines and (2) artificial cognitive systems. Readers looking for an introduction to those views should read the essay "Do Androids Dream of Human Companionship." I think I hold back little in expressing my fundamental views there.

Secondarily, I wanted to provide a source for reviews, primers and surveys of the state of AI technology and fields (neuroscience+) having direct impact on the development of artificial cognitive systems, a grand challenge in AI. Keeping up with the fast pace of discoveries/advances in neuroscience and related fields (biomedical engineering, neurobiology, psychometrics, computational neuroscience, neuromorphic engineering, materials science, etc.) will be essential in the development of artificial cognitive systems and will also (I think) further enable the development of practical intelligent machines. My goal as an "outsider" is to facilitate a "unifying" view by drawing upon key discoveries/advances/prior work and connecting them.

My background includes a Ph.D in Physics with former careers in academia (research professor) and industry (technical program management). For more information on me, visit my Google+ page, HERE.
